TariffShield

See what tariffs are really costing you.

TariffShield reads three things you already keep in Shopify, cost per item, HS code and country of origin, works out the duty on each product, and shows which ones are underwater and what to reprice. Where data is missing it shows a gap. It never guesses.

01 · Features

What the cockpit shows

01

Margin after duty

Landed cost is your unit cost plus duty on the customs value, not on the retail price. The cockpit shows the margin that is left.

02

Underwater, worst first

A table of the products losing money or running thin, sorted so the worst is at the top.

03

A price that fixes it

For each product, the price that restores your target margin, and one click to write it back to Shopify.

04

Gaps shown as gaps

Missing a cost, an HS code or an origin? The cockpit tells you how many products it cannot measure and why. It does not fill the hole with a guess.

05

Rates with a version and a source

Every duty rate carries its source and a confidence label. When the rates change, the cockpit says so and asks you to re-sync, instead of quietly changing your numbers.

06

Show your working

A data and assumptions page sets out exactly what is included, what is excluded and where each figure comes from.

02 · How it works

How it works

  1. Sync your catalogue

It reads cost per item, HS code and country of origin from the products you already have.

  2. It works out the duty

Trade-action rates are applied by origin and HS chapter. Anything it cannot resolve is flagged.

  3. You decide what to reprice

See the damage worst first, and apply a suggested price where it makes sense.

03 · Straight talk

What it won’t do

  • Guess a missing cost. The first number you cannot trace is the one that loses your trust, so it shows the gap instead.
  • Classify your products. Shopify is building HS classification in. TariffShield is the decision layer on top.
  • Give customs or tax advice. Figures are estimates for planning. Check them against USITC and USTR sources before a customs filing.
  • Include base HS-schedule rates. Today it covers the trade-action tariffs on top, and says so on every screen.

04 · Pricing

What it will cost

Nothing is for sale yet. Before we build billing we want to sit down with merchants who import into the US, and we will only carry on if enough of them say they would pay for it. If that is you, we would like to talk.

05 · Build notes

How it is made

The duty and margin calculations are plain functions with no side effects, covered by 46 automated checks. Rates live in versioned, source-cited configuration, and the rule is that a rate never changes without the version changing with it.

We are holding it at a working cockpit on purpose. The rule we set ourselves: talk to ten importing merchants first, and only build billing and a store listing if at least three say, unprompted, that they would pay.

06 · Privacy

Privacy, plainly

  • It reads product data from your Shopify catalogue: cost, HS code, country of origin and price.
  • It is not publicly available, so no merchant data is being collected from the public today.
  • A full privacy policy will be published here before it is listed on the Shopify App Store.

07 · FAQ

Good questions

Can I install it?

Not yet. It is a working app on a development store, and it is not listed on the Shopify App Store. If you import into the US and want to see it on your own catalogue, get in touch.

Which tariffs does it cover?

US trade-action tariffs: the Section 301 tiers by country of origin and Section 232 by product chapter, such as steel, aluminium and vehicles. It excludes base HS-schedule rates, and it labels every estimate as an estimate.

Does it classify HS codes?

No. It uses the HS codes already on your products. Classification may come later as a clearly labelled helper, never as the product.

Is this customs advice?

No. The figures are estimates for planning. Verify them against official sources before you file anything.

TariffShield provides estimates for planning, not customs or tax advice. Some rates are estimates. Verify against USITC and USTR sources before customs filings.
