01 Scanning is blocked and says “Nothing to file these under”
Deliberate. Create an event in Settings first: the event supplies the country used to format phone numbers and the consent basis recorded on every capture. Guessing either would produce records you could not defend later. You can still add leads by hand from that screen.
02 The camera is on but nothing scans
If a red banner appears saying nothing is being read, that is a fault in the build and not something you are doing — restart the app, and report it if it persists. Otherwise: exhibition halls are dark, so use the torch button at the top of the capture screen, fill the frame with the badge, and hold steady for a beat. Automatic capture deliberately waits for two agreeing reads before it saves anything, which is what stops it inventing leads from patterned surfaces.
03 A field came back blank
Lanyard leaves a field empty rather than filling it in wrongly. Anything it considered but was not sure about is kept as a suggestion — open the lead and one tap accepts it.
04 A lead is in “Drafts” and will not export
Drafts are captures too thin to act on — a first name off a glared badge, or a badge number with no name. They are saved and safe, they just do not leave the phone until you finish them or confirm them with the tick. The row tells you what is missing.
05 Voice notes say “not transcribed yet”
Transcription needs a one-off language model download, from Settings, of about 75 MB. Do it on decent wifi. After that, open the Queue and transcripts appear under each note. Notes recorded before that download still transcribe afterwards — nothing is lost by waiting.
06 “Brief me” and “Draft the follow-up” are not there
They are off until you switch them on, on a new install and after an update. Settings → AI sets out exactly what each request sends to Google’s Gemini — the company, the job title and your own note text, plus the first name in a draft so the email can open with it, and never a photo, never the audio and never a question about the person — and the switch is at the bottom of that row. Turning it off again is the same tap and takes effect on the next request. Transcription is unaffected either way: it runs on the phone and is free.
If the row says this version has no AI backend, the build was made without a paid Firebase project and there is nothing to switch on. Nothing is sent on that build at all.
07 I discarded a lead by accident
An undo bar appears for a few seconds after any discard. If you missed it, re-scanning the same person brings the lead back with everything still attached.
08 Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes the database, badge photographs and voice notes with it. See deleting an account if you created one.
Kept with the app’s source code and published here unchanged, apart from the contact address.
